5 Bollywood Films which might surprise you in the ‘second-half’ of 2017!

Almost 7 months have passed since the inception of our current year, 2017. Bollywood has already witnessed first half of the year with films like Kaabil, Raees, Jolly LLB, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Naam Shabana etc which have tasted their success with box office collection. However, films like Rangoon, OK Jaanu, Begum Jaan & Half Girlfriend have failed by earning some moderate collection and audience tiresome views. The things which I personally found that a good content cinema like Hindi Medium, Trapped, and The Ghazi Attack have performed well at Box Office with reasonable collections, critic’s positive views and Audience’s heart this year. What is more surprising is that these movies don’t have big names like ‘Khans’ or ‘Kapoor’s’ attached to it.

However, since we are at ‘interval’ period of this surprising year, I have list down 5 content driven films which might give you an abundance of surprise in this coming 6 months.

    1. Lipstick Under My Burkha
Ratna Pathak Shah in Lipstick Under My Burkha
Ratna Pathak Shah in Lipstick Under My Burkha

This film is already in the news for quite a sometime. Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) earlier refused to certify this film as the content deals with some sexual scene, abusive words, and audio pornography. There was lot backlash on social media against CBFC for decision. However, this film is now set to release after Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) overruled the decision of CBFC after filmmakers appeal to the bench. This film stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead role. There is a lot of power-performance indulged in this social drama flick which is based on women’s choices of living and exploring their own sexuality. This film has already won a lot of accolade and standing ovation in various international film festivals and it coming to Indian theaters on 21st July 2017.

    1. Indu Sarkar
    Indu Sarkar - Kirti Kulhari
    Indu Sarkar – Kirti Kulhari

Madhur Bhandarkar, is known for getting the realism and dark-side of stories in the world of politics, fashion & business industries with films like Satta, Fashion and Corporate in early 20’s, However his recent past films haven’t done much well on BO. But what makes Indu Sarkar a difference? Is a question which I thought after watching its recent trailer, and honestly I found it quite promising. The film is based on 1975 infamous ‘The Emergency’ starring Kirti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Anupam Kher in lead role. Apart from the storyline, the film also has Neil Nitin Mukesh in completely different look. The film is releasing on 28th July 2017.

    1. Haseena Parker
Shraddha Kapoor and Siddhanth Kapoor in 'Haseena Parkar'
Shraddha Kapoor and Siddhanth Kapoor in ‘Haseena Parkar’

Shraddha Kapoor might be having a terrible year with her last two film’s debacle on BO. But the hopes are quite high with this new film directed by Apoorva Lakhia who is known for making crime drama Shootout at Lokhandwala which was well received by everyone. The film marks the complete make-over of Shraddha Kapoor into a new avatar. She plays real life character of Haseena Parker, sister of underworld gangster, Dawood Ibrahim. The Surprising element is also that Shraddha’s real life brother Siddhanth Kapoor is also playing her reel brother on-screen. The teaser of the film is been appreciated. The film is all set to release on 18th August 2017.

    1. San’ 75 Pachattar
Kay Kay Menon in 'San' 75 Pachattar'
Kay Kay Menon in ‘San’ 75 Pachattar’

Another film based on a Controversial period of ‘1975’s Emergency’ of independent India. Surprisingly this will be the second film of Kirti Kulhari which is dealing with ‘Emergency’ Issue as a story line. The film also stars talented actor Kay Kay Menon along with Pravessh Rana. The astonishing element of this film is based on trilling story-line when the first technology of mobile phone was exposed to Indians and how few sets individuals play a deadly game to acquire the new innovation back in days. Now, this sounds like a good content which can give you a great periodic-thriller. However, the film release date is not yet fixed, as it was supposed to release last year in July 2016 and it was pushed back due to certain cuts and changes as per CBFC norms. But we can surely expect some miracles this year.

    1. Daddy
Arjun Rampal as 'Arun Gawli' in Daddy
Arjun Rampal as ‘Arun Gawli’ in Daddy

The teaser of this film was out a few months back and last month the makers have released the trailer. Daddy is surely going to create a lot of positive buzz on BO as well as on critic’s mind and there is only one man who is going to pull this thing off: Arjun Rampal. The model-turned-actor might not have tasted much success on BO but what is more promising is his look and acting in this upcoming political-crime flick. For the first time, Arjun is playing the role of a gangster which is based on real-life don-turned-politician Arun Gawli. Arjun Rampal has lost a ton of weight and worked hard to give his role the touch of perfect realism. The film is releasing on 21st July 2017.
