A massive bike rally Morcha was held in Aurangabad by Maratha Kranti Morcha which was done to garner support from Mumbai silent protest. This bike rally Morcha was attended by thousands of supporters and activists. The Maratha group demands amendment in SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities act 1989). This rally aims to generate support for the mega silent rally happening in Mumbai which will be held on 9th of August.
Last year majority of the demands were agreed and also enforced by the Maharashtrian government and there also seems to be the lack of issues, but the only issue remaining that they could not accomplish is the reservation of the Maratha community.
There were two problems emerging, “While one section believes that the rally is ill-timed as the reservation issue is before the court and the state government cannot interfere, and the other group says that the rally was essential to keep the pressure on the government to expedite their demand for reservation in jobs and education” said a member.
Out of the demand chart provided by the government, most of the major decisions have been implemented. Senior cabinet Minister Chandrakant Patil said, “The government is open to dialogue with the Maratha community on any issue they feel needs to be discussed. We are not against their rally, which is a democratic right.”
