Man arrested at Mumbai airport for carrying a bullet on flight


The Sahar police have arrested a 25-year-old man for carrying a pistol’s bullet in his luggage. The man who was on his way to Mumbai from Paris, said that a friend in America gifted him the bullet as a souvenir, and he was unaware of the rules. He has been booked under the Indian Arms Act.

According to the Sahar police, Varun Kalra, the accused, had gone to the United States of America and Paris for a trip. Kalra who resides in Godhra, Gujarat, had taken an American flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta on July 13 and then from Atlanta to Paris.

He landed at the CST International Airport from Paris. During the security check, an official from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) found the bullet which was kept in the front pocket of one of his bags. When questioned if he had a license for carrying the ammunition and what was the purpose behind carrying it, Kalra had no answers and was detained at the Airport.

As per the practice, the CISF alerted the Sahar police and Kalra was handed over to the police. The Sahar police booked Kalra under section 3 (license for acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition) and 25 (punishment for section 3) of the Indian Arms Act.
