The ‘driver-partners’ of taxi-aggregating apps Ola and Uber may have called their strikes in Delhi, National Capital Region (NCR) and Bengaluru but driver partners in Mumbai do not seem to agree to it in Mumbai.
Reasons for drivers apprehension are multiple – Going on strike means, losing out on daily earnings hence they will have to be on duty. However few drivers seem confused going on the road as they are afraid miscreants who are fueling the strike will turn violent.
A driver in anonymity said ” We are apprehensive of plying our vehicles in view of violent situation in Delhi and Bangalore where some vehicles were damaged and the mobile phones were snatched by disgruntled drivers. I fear that these miscreants will do the same in Mumbai. Customers would be apprehensive of using the vehicles fearing replication of a Delhi or Bangalore like situation where passengers were harassed”.
The driver claims there are about 100-150 driver partners in Mumbai who resonate the same sentiments.
